NORTON, Mass. (AP) — The PGA Tour had what Commissioner Tim Finchem described as ”robust” conversations with Fox Sports in two of the last three television negotiations until scheduling conflicts with the network kept the discussion from going anywhere.

Golf-McGinley happy to give youth a chance at Ryder Cup (Reuters)

LONDON, Aug 28 (Reuters) – European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has said he will not be afraid to blood inexperienced youngsters in his team for next year’s contest. The Irishman, a five-times Ryder Cup winner as player and vice-captain, will have three wildcard picks for his 12-man team, with several Ryder Cup rookies among Europe’s form players. Italy’s Matteo Manassero, Sweden’s Jonas Blixt and Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen are all ranked in the world’s top 50 and will be pushing for inclusion while Scotland’s Martin Laird and England’s Chris Wood have tour wins in 2013. …

Rickie Fowler has quickly become one of golf’s most popular figures. Now he’s one of the game’s guardians as well.

In a new series of videos by Farmers Insurance, the 24-year-old takes on the role of “Dick Fowler, P.I.” In the “Magnum, P.I.” spoofs, Fowler speaks in a deep, intimidating voice, has an exaggerated Tom Selleck mustache, and he steps in when he sees foul, um, play.

Here’s Fowler punishing someone for talking in a playing partner’s backswing:

And here he is teaching a golfer a tough lesson about replacing divots:

Not exactly the kind of stuff a real private investigator would tackle, of course, but that’s what makes it funny. We’ll also forgive him for tearing up the course with his motorcycle. . .
