Video: Patrick Reed’s remarkable winning recovery shot

By Alex Myers

As if winning his first PGA Tour title in a playoff over one of golf’s rising stars wasn’t sweet enough, Patrick Reed did it with his wife, Justine, on his bag at the Wyndham Championship. As if THAT wasn’t thrilling enough, he capped the biggest day of his golf career with the best shot he’s ever hit.

After nearly hitting his drive out of bounds on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff with Jordan Spieth, Reed responded with arguably the shot of the year on tour. With his opponent 10 feet from the cup, Reed was forced to be aggressive. He punched a shot out of pine needles, under a tree and to about seven feet to set up his winning birdie putt.

Here’s a clip of the must-see shot:

Just minutes earlier, Spieth made a 26-footer for par and Reed missed a 10-footer for birdie to keep the playoff going. Reed’s wayward tee shot on the next hole made it appear like the rookie from Augusta State would have to wait to pick up his first PGA Tour title. Not so fast.

Instead, Reed left Greensboro with a moment he and his wife (his full-time caddie) will never forget and a highlight-reel shot that’s sure to be seen replayed for years to come. With three straight top 10s, including a maiden victory, expect to see more of Patrick and Justine for years to come as well.
